Six Sins of Skin Care

Six Sins of Skin Care - Cosmetics Fragrance Direct

Top of my New Year's Resolutions list for 2013 is to improve my skin care regime. It can be very easy to slip into bad habits when it comes to looking after your skin but the benefits of being strict are definitely worthwhile.

With a bit of patience, dedication and motivation we can all avoid these six sins of skin care and head fresh faced into the New Year.

1. Sleeping in makeup

Just as dancing shoes come off after a night of partying, so too should your makeup, however tempting it may be to go straight to bed. Sleeping in makeup can lead to blocked pores causing blemishes. Leaving mascara and eye liner on overnight can cause irritation, allergic reactions or infection. Wake up to clear skin by removing all makeup before you hit the hay.

2. Squeezing pimples

This is a big no no! By squeezing pimples you may inadvertently force the build up of sebum, dead skin cells and bacteria further into the follicle which can lead to a cyst or nodule. Squeezing or picking pimples can scar your skin so it's important to maintain a hands-off policy at all times.

3. Tanning

With so many options available for gorgeous faux tans, there is no excuse for damaging your skin for a summer glow. Don't spend long periods of time in the sun without a hat, sunscreen and appropriate clothing and your skin will thank you for it.

4. Using the wrong skin products for your skin type

The best way to care for your skin is by knowing your skin type as even top quality skin care won't be beneficial if it's not suitable for you. Target problem areas efficiently by using skin care that matches your specific needs.

5. Smoking

Smoking leads to aged skin, wrinkles, discolouration and loss of tone. Ditch the cigarettes for healthier looking skin!

6. Letting your skin rule your life

Lets face it, when you're having a bad skin day, and this happens to us all, it can get you down. It's important to remember that often our own imperfections seem greater than they are. If you have a break out, don't fret! Continue with your skin care regime, drink plenty of water, eat fresh fruit and vegetables and keep your chin up as tomorrow is a new day!
