Born in 1940, Tunisian-born couturier and shoe designer, Azzedine Alaïa graduated from School of Fine Arts in France and began working as a dressmaker’s assistant. He soon began dressing private clients and in 1957 moved to Paris to work with fashion designers Christian Dior, Guy Laroche and Thierry Mugler until he opened his first studio in his apartment. For almost 20 years he dressed privately the world’s jet set including Marie-Hélène de Rothschild to Louise de Vilmorin to Greta Garbo. To this day Alaïa is revered for his independence and passion for discreet luxury. A loyal celebrity following for his label includes big names such as Michelle Obama, Lady Gaga, Marion Cotillard and Carla Bruni.
