The house of Dana was founded in 1932 in Barcelona by Javier Serra. The name Dana is derived from Danae, the Greek goddess and symbol for female beauty, chosen by Serra to represent his company and reflect his definition of true beauty based on ideals of art, culture and mythology.
The brands first fragrance, released 1932 was the instant classic, Tabu - known as the forbidden fragrance. One of the first ever oriental scents created, and thanks to the high concentration of Patchouli, one of the strongest. It is cited as an inspiration for many iconic oriental fragrances today including Tuvara by Tuvaché and Estée Lauder Youth Dew.
Designed by renowned perfumer Jean Carles in collaboration with Serra, the two men wanted to create something completely different to anything on the market. The result was the sensual and shocking Tabu. A floral oriental opening with fresh citrus and spicy notes, Tabu is balanced with a floral heart consisting of jasmine, narcissus and rose before the wearer is met with the fragrances instantly recognisable, iconic warm ambery oriental base.
