René Lacoste was born in France, 1904. Along with his French team mates, The Musketeers, he stole the Davis cup from the American’s in 1927. This tennis star is known by his alligator trademark. Lacoste states that this nickname and insignia developed after making a bet with the captain of the French Davis Cup team concerning an alligator skin suitcase, promised to Lacoste if he won a very important match. The symbol of the alligator stuck with Lacoste as it represents his relentless tenacity and fearlessness on the tennis court. In 1933 Lacoste commissioned a French apparel brand to manufacture alligator logo embroidered shirts.
